Obituary of George H. Bebbington

George H. Bebbington, age 91, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Arbor Glen Rehab in Bridgewater. Born in East Orange, he had lived in Montclair and Cedar Grove and Linden before moving to Warren 62 years ago. George was a recipient of the Purple Heart having served his country in Iwo Jima as a Marine during World War II. George was a graduate of Newark State College with a Bachelor's Degree and Rutgers University with a Master's in Psychology. He was a Member of the Technical Staff with Bell Labs in Murray Hill for 37 years before retiring. George was the founding president of the Warren Historical Society. He was the president of the newly formed Warren Township Board of Health in 1960 and served on the Warren Township Board of Education. He was the former president of the Warren Seniors and later served as vice president. He also volunteered at the YMCA, Somerville Saturday mornings for 10 years, serving as swimming instructor for beginning swimmers. He was a member of the J. J. Gardner Detachment of the Marine Corps League, South Plainfield, Disabled American Veterans and Military Order of Purple Heart. George was a charter member and Elder of Trinity United Church and sang in the choir. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, camping, traveling and spending time with his family. Predeceased by an infant daughter, Susan Claire; recently, his brother Philip J. Bebbington, Sr., and son-in-law Payton Pellagrino. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years Catherine Parker Bebbington; children Donna Pellagrino and Jonathan Bebbington and his wife Clare; grandchildren William Dylan and Catherine Grace Pellagrino. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Trinity United Church, Warren, NJ.
