Obituary of Norma E. Cornelia

Norma E. (DeGroat) Cornelia, age 89, died on Monday, January 6, 2014, at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Suffern, NY she lived in Mahwah, Jersey City and South Plainfield before moving to Green Brook twenty years ago. Norma graduated from Ramsey High School in 1942; she then graduated from Jersey Medical Center, receiving her degree in nursing. Prior to retiring in 1988, she worked as an RN at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield for twenty-three years. Norma was a long time member of Trinity Reform Church in North Plainfield. In her spare time Norma enjoyed cross stitch, singing in the choir, reading, music, gardening and especially traveling within the United States. She loved most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Ira R. Cornelia in 1982. Surviving are her children Greg L. Cornelia, Sharon G. Valentino and her husband Frank , Dawn S. Toth and her husband Stephen and Scott R. Cornelia and his wife Joyce; grandchildren Adrian Valentino, Lorraine (Edison) Torres, Sandra (Tom) Prefontaine, Renee (Chad) Florentine, Diana (Joe) Llanes, Justin Toth and Adam (Laura) Toth; 9 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Reform Church, North Plainfield. Interment will follow at Lake Nelson Memorial Park in Piscataway. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
