Obituary of Sr. Miriam Golden

Sister Miriam Golden, age 79, died peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2018 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, New Jersey. She was born in Princeton, NJ, the daughter of John and Mary Golden. She attended St. Paul School in that city and Cathedral High School in Trenton. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1957. She earned a degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College (now University) in Lakewood, NJ and began teaching at Holy Cross School in Rumson. More teaching assignments followed: St. Charles Borromeo School in Cinnaminson, Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Nicholas schools, Atlantic City. In 1972 she moved to Alpha and St. Mary School, then St. Matthias in Somerset, St. Elizabeth, Bernardsville and St. Mary Academy in Lakewood. Her last teaching assignment was St. Dominic School in Brick. She enjoyed the primary grades and her bubbly personality and enthusiasm plus her love of children fitted her well for the many years she devoted to teaching. A career change in 1996 brought Sister Miriam to Bartley Manor in Jackson where she served as an activity assistant. She found she enjoyed being with senior citizens and assisting them with projects and activities from which they derived benefit and pleasure. In 2000 she moved to Crestwood Manor serving in the same role and finally to Harrowgate Health Care Center in Lakewood where she was honored as one of "Harrowgate's Best" for her dedicated service and productivity. When Sister Miriam retired, she moved to Gabriel Hall in Watchung then to McAuley Hall Health Care Center where she enjoyed the company of her many companions in Mercy. Sister Miriam is survived by several nieces and nephews and many Sisters of Mercy.
