Obituary of Louise Ignoscia

Louise Zappella Ignoscia (Weezie), 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at her residence in Matawan, with her loving children and their spouses by her side.

Louise was born to Italian immigrants in Leland, Mississippi where she lived on a cotton farm. Her family later moved to South Plainfield, NJ where she was raised and resided until she was married. She was a graduate of North Plainfield High School, and worked at Allstate Insurance Company upon graduation. She was credited with writing their famous commercial jingle! Louise raised her children in North Plainfield, and went on to obtain her Medical Secretary Certificate. She worked for Raritan Valley Hospital in their admitting office, and she eventually retired from UMDNJ's Department of Family Medicine in 2003 after almost 25 years of service.

Louise was a communicant of St. Lukes R.C. Church in North Plainfield and a member of their Alter Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Italian American Club Women's Auxiliary, and the Traveling Seniors.

As a young adult, Louise played several sports including softball, volleyball, and bowling. She was especially proud of bowling a 300 game.

Louise enjoyed traveling with her friends, trips to Atlantic City, attending broadway shows, attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events, and vacationing at the beach with her daughter and her family. She loved music and loved to dance, and even aspired to be a Rockette. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Louise possessed a fun spirit, and was the life of the party. She was loved by all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.

Louise was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Angelina Zappella, and by her siblings Connie Columbus, Michael Columbus, Zena Capobianco, and Charles Columbus. She is survived by her beloved children and their spouses Paul and Sharon Ignoscia of Freehold, Carolyn and William Lester of Middlesex, and Thomas and Roseann Ignoscia of Red Bank; five grandchildren Trista Williams (Anthony), Paul Ignoscia (Kristen), Billy Lester, Michael Lester, and Stewart Lester; and four great-grandchildren Khiana and Cecily Williams, and Nicolas Ignoscia and new baby brother, Joseph Dominic , who was born into the family on the day of Louise's passing. Louise is also survived by her beloved sister Lucy Smalley.

A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 -8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10 am at St. Luke's Church followed by interment in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
