Obituary of Joseph Michael Killeya
Watchung: Joseph Michael Killeya, age 91, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Somerville. He was born in Rawtenstall, England and was raised in Accrington, England. He lived in Quebec, Canada, Egypt, Easton PA and Plainfield before moving to Watchung in 1979.
Mr. Killeya was a Paratrooper in the British Army during World War II.
He served a full apprenticeship in England as a textile printer which led him to Canada and Egypt and then finally America. Prior to his retirement he was a Textile Printer for Old Deerfield Fabric in Cedar Grove, NJ.
He was a very active and proud member of the Watchung Hills Elks Lodge 885, having served as the Exalted Ruler and Trustee. He was the coordinator of the Elks Disabled Children's Fund.
Mr. Killeya enjoyed carpentry.
He is predeceased by his wife, Monica Killeya in 2013 and his son, Timothy Killeya in 1973.
Surviving are his son, Christopher Killeya and his wife, Carol and his daughter , Deborah Quinn and her husband, Bill; his grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff), Kimberly (Ken), Emily (Seth), Christopher, Erin, Patrick, Sean and Kelly and his great-granddaughter, Guinevere.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 30th from 2-4 & 7-9 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 9 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church. Interment will be private at Hillside Cemetery.
