Obituary of Jeffrey L. Carmen
Newark: Jeffrey L. Carmen, age 47, of Newark, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, NJ. Jeff was born in New Brunswick, and had lived in Piscataway, Trenton, and New York City before later moving to Newark, NJ.
Jeffrey Carmen who was affectionately known as JJ ,was a counselor for the Salvation Army in Newark New Jersey. He was also a member of the New Hope Baptist Church located in Newark New Jersey, where he also sang in the choir and worked in the administrative office. He was a proud member and loved working to serve the Lord. JJ enjoyed shopping especially for designer clothing and going to amusement parks.He was a very charismatic person and made many friends.
He leaves to cherish him in memories his beloved mother, Jean Steele Carrasquillo; his father Lloyd Carmen; two brothers Vernon L. Carmen and his wife Tarsha, Jason Clifford Johnson and his fiance Connie; one sister Crystal Carmen . He is also survived by three nephews: Jakil Throne Johnson, Giovanni Jeffrey Johnson and Collin Carmen. Four nieces, Gerri Carmen, Aaliyah Jean Carmen, Kailey Carmen, and Layla Carmen . He also leaves his very close and dear friend Jerome Franklin.
Preceding him in death: Step Father Throne Johnson, Grandparents William Steele, Geneva Glassco, and Charles and Octavia Carmen. Four uncles Alfred Carmen, Charles Carmen Jr., Herman Carmen Sr., Harold Carmen Sr. Three aunts Octavia Fisher, Constance Collins, and Estelle Lowery.
Jeffrey JJ Carmen had the gift of making everyone around him laugh. He made anybody that was fortunate enough to be in his company feel welcomed. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by interment at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Woodbridge.
