Obituary of Robert S. Johnson

Martinsville: Robert S. Johnson, age 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Martinsville. Born in Somerville, Robert was raised in Middlesex and has resided in Martinsville since 1972. Robert was a graduate of Bound Brook High School, Class of 1955, and a star pitcher on the varsity baseball team. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in politics from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. He later earned his law degree from Seton Hall Law School in Newark in 1962. Robert has been practicing family law and litigation since then at his firm in Middlesex, NJ. He always worked to serve the community and assist those less fortunate. Robert served honorably in the United States National Guard for 10 years. Robert was a great athlete; he excelled in every sport he played. He was a black diamond skier, an avid golfer and tennis player; he continued to play tennis and golf with friends until very recently. Robert also loved to work outdoors and took great pride in maintaining his lawn. Robert also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Courteney. Robert and his wife Catherine could always be seen out at local restaurants, alone or with friends, talking and laughing, and getting to know the owners, waiters and staff. Robert was a friend to everyone. In the last couple of years, Robert loved just watching the view of the ocean and the beach with his wife Catherine from his daughter and son in law's home in Long Branch. Robert is predeceased by his son Glenn Robert Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Catherine (Kowalsky) Johnson; a daughter Wendy Johnson Lario and her husband Michael; a granddaughter Courteney Lario Caine and husband Timothy; a sister Karen Johnson and a brother Edward Johnson and his wife Mary Lou. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. at Higgins Home for Funeral, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung NJ 07069.
