Nancy Hogan Mackinson

Mackinson, Nancy H., 94, of Basking Ridge, passed away Sunday July 1, with family at her side. Born and raised in West Orange, NJ, a longtime resident of Maplewood prior to moving to Basking Ridge in 1987. A graduate of Trinity College, Washington, D.C., class of 1945, she was a member of the Somerset Hills chapter of the AAUW, she transcribed text books into Braille for the American Red Cross, she held subscriptions to the NJ Symphony and the Paper Mill Playhouse. She enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, and Bridge. She enjoyed many card games with her children and grandchildren.

Pre-deceased by her husband, Thomas Joseph Mackinson, and by her two sisters, Eileen and Jeanne, and her brothers Albert and Henry (Henny), she lived a fruitful life full of activities and volunteerism. She enjoyed travelling the world, especially to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which she frequented since her honeymoon in 1955, living through the many changes to the area as it developed over the years, but always enjoying the view and the sound of the ocean.

Nancy was the beloved mother of 7 children, 13 grandchildren, and one great grandchild: Eileen Sniffen and her husband Rich of Long Valley, NJ, Anne Davis and her husband Jim of New Canaan, CT, Patricia Mackinson and her husband Richard Csontos of Newfoundland, PA, Mary Mateer and her husband Jeff of Chapel Hill, NC, Paul Mackinson of Pittstown, NJ, and his significant other Peggy Keenan, Andrew Mackinson of Readington,NJ, and Peter Mackinson and his wife Chris, of Wyckoff, NJ.

Loving grandmother to Matt Davis and his wife Amanda, and their daughter Bristol, Brianne Davis, Thomas Hagan Sniffen and his wife Kelsey, Kaitie and Addie Sniffen, Sandor and Cahir Csontos, Patrick, Kevin, Brian, and Chris Mateer; Conor and Thomas Mackinson.

Visitation will be held at Higgins Funeral Home, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ on Friday, July 6, from 4:00 – 8:00. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. James in Basking Ridge on Saturday, July 7, at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's New Jersey, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365 in memory of her late husband, Thomas Mackinson, are appreciated by the family.
