Obituary of Helena Nunes
Helena Antao Nunes died on August 7, 2018 at the age of 91, after a short illness.
Helena was born on November 18, 1926 to Jose Nunes Antao and Herminia do Amaral Antao in Salreu, Portugal. She was the third of five children. She and her siblings, Maria Herminia, Adalcina, Jose Fortunato and Francisco Antonio played on their farm, and walked together to church and school in their village. Helena was educated in Portugal, and was trained as a seamstress. In 1952 she married a young man from her hometown, Jose Ulisses Nunes. She then emigrated to the United States to be with her husband. They had one son, Francisco Jose. Helena dedicated her life to the care of her family and her gardens. A religious woman, she was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield, New Jersey for over fifty years.
Helena is predeceased by her husband, her son and all her siblings. She is survived by two sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada and Portugal.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 8:30 to 9:30 am followed by a 10 am Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Plainfield. Entombment will be at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia.
