George Weiss Obituary (Age 90)

Son of the late Otto and Frances Weiss of Plainfield, predeceased by his wife of 29 years Betty Bunin Weiss (died 1985), brother of the late Herbert F. Weiss (died 2018).

Survived by daughter Laurie Ann Weiss-Braunstein (Mark), son Michael Lawrence Weiss (Cindy), grandsons Benjamin, Daniel and Joshua Braunstein (Alecia), great-granddaughter Indigo Braunstein, long time significant-other of 30-plus years Juliette Ratner, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Advertising Director for the West Essex Tribune in Livingston, NJ from 1953 to 1974. Director of Planning and Development for Metro Associated Services in NYC from 1974-1987. Received numerous awards from the New Jersey Press Association for his advertising campaigns while at the West Essex Tribune, supporting businesses in the Livingston, NJ area in the 1950s-1970s. Held various positions in the NJPA, including stints as President and Co-Chairman of the annual NJPA conventions held in Atlantic City, NJ. While at Metro, he traveled the US and Canada giving seminars to newspaper advertising staff.

In retirement, along with long-time friend and neighbor Joe Nagy, operated Channel 35 cable access TV station in Fanwood, NJ until 2014. Awarded Volunteer of the Year in Fanwood, NJ in the 2000s, along with Joe Nagy for their work at Channel 35 TV. Produced video productions on the Central Railroad of NJ, the Rahway Valley Railroad, and the Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood, NJ detailing an auction in 1919.

Raised in Plainfield, NJ, he married Betty in 1955. They resided in Elizabeth, Plainfield, Middlesex and for 50 years in Fanwood, NJ. He moved to Herndon, VA in 2015 where he lived until his death.
