Obituary of Mildred Scrima
Mildred Scrima, born on October 13, 1916 was 102 when she passed away on Thursday October 25, 2018 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Somerset in Somerville, NJ. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY Mildred had resided in Massapequa/ Amityville for over 40 years before moving to Lakewood, NJ in 1999.
Mildred was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church in the Bronx. It is here that she received all her sacraments and even celebrated her 100th birthday mass. Mildred was a health enthusiast, she was always current on the latest nutritional information. She enjoyed listening to Jerry Hickey and his health program on the radio. She also often referred to her library of comprehensive health and nutritional books to help support a healthy lifestyle for herself and her family. Mildred was an artist at landscaping and loved maintaining her yard. Mildred was an excellent cook but most of all she loved spending time with her beloved family.
Mildred is predeceased by her husband Ettore in 1992; her parents Filomena and Vincenzo Veglia and her four brothers Michael, Charles, Bernard and Patrick Veglia.
She is survived by her two daughters Phyllis Juette and her husband Hans and Denise Stevens and her husband Paul; four grandchildren Nancy and Cindy Juette and Andrew Stevens and his wife Mandy and Matthew Stevens and his wife Nazia. She is also survived by two great grandchildren Lincoln Kais and Emilia Rose Stevens. Mildred will be remembered by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation will be held at Higgins Home for Funeral 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday October 30, 2018. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at the funeral home at 9:00 am followed by a 10 am funeral mass at St. Mary’s Stony Hill RC Church in Watchung, NJ. The entombment will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Farmingdale NY at 1:30 pm.
