Obituary of George William Garrett

George William Garrett, age 35, died suddenly on Saturday, November 10, 2018, as a result of a motorcycle accident that occurred in FranklinTownship.  Born and raised in Plainfield, he was a lifelong resident.

George was employed by The Home Depot in Edison for 8 years and worked on the freight team.  Previously, he worked as a motorcycle technician for his parents’ Harley Davidson dealership in Highland Park.

He was a graduate of St. Matthew’s School in Edison and St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick.  George was a motorcycle enthusiast and taught himself to play the guitar. 

George loved being an uncle. His nephews always knew how much he loved them. He would do anything for them. 

He was a genuine friend and those that were blessed to call him friend knew how lucky they were. George was loved by all that knew him.

George loved to spend every summer in Wolfeboro, NH with the family from the time he was an infant. Wolfeboro was George’s home away from home. 

George was named after his Great-Great Grandfather the Reverend George W. Garrett.  He was the inventor of the World’s 1st mechanically powered submarine (Resurgam 1879).

Surviving are his loving and devoted parents William T. and Joyce S. (Mizak) Garrett; siblings John Garrett and his wife Koren, Barre Mizak and Lisa Hillhouse and her husband Mark; nephews Patrick, Austin and Scott; nieces Annie and Olivia; and many very much loved extended family and dear friends.

A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ.
