Obituary of Sr. Carol Marie Creamer, R.S.M.
Sister Carol Creamer, age 81, formerly Sister Mary Jacob, died peacefully on November 14, 2018 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ. Sister Carol was born in New Brunswick, NJ, the daughter of James and Henrietta Creamer. She attended Our Lady of Victories School in Sayreville and St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick. She answered the call to religious life in 1956 and entered the Sisters of Mercy in Watchung. She earned her first degree from Georgian Court College (now University) in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Speech Pathology from New Jersey State College (now the College of New Jersey).
From 1958 through 1979, Sister Carol taught in the following Parish elementary schools; Immaculate Conception School in Camden; St. John’s School in Paulsboro; Holy Spirit School in Atlantic City; St. Joseph School in East Trenton and St. Nicholas School in Atlantic City where she also served as Prinicpal. She returned to the classroom briefly at St. Francis Cabrini School in Piscataway. After earning a degree an certification is speech pathology, she became a teacher and therapist at St. Mary Academy in Lakewood. In 1999, Sister Carol was hired as a speech language specialist by I.C.S.T. and began full time speech work at St. Dominic School in Brick. She continued speech therapy work at Calvary Academy, Ocean Day School and Holy Family School in Lakewood while residing at Georgian Court until moving to the St. James Convent in Red Bank. While Sister Carol loved everything she did as a Sister of Mercy, she enjoyed special satisfaction as a speech therapist. When health concerns made it necessary, Sister Carol moved to McAuley Hall Health Care Center.
Sister Carol is survived by her brothers, Thomas and wife Eileen Creamer of NJ, Michael and wife, Edna of VA and predeceased by brother James, survived by his wife, Kathleen of CA and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, the 17th of November at McAuley Hall Health care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ.
