Obituary of Sr. Annette Duignan
Sister Annette Duignan, Sister of Mercy.
Sister Annette, 78, died peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2014 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, NJ.
Sister Annette was born in Trenton, NJ and attended St Mary Grammar School and Cathedral High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1953and later received a BS degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ.
Her teaching career brought her to St. Joseph School, Keyport; St. Catherine School, East Keansburg; St. Mathias School, Somerset; St. Francis School, Metuchen; and Sacred Heart School, South Plainfield, where she also served as Principal for 6 years. At the end of her teaching years she worked at St. France Cabrini School, Piscataway in the Library and Resource center for several years.
When she was officially retired Sister Annette actively ministered in St. James Parish, Woodbridge where she assisted in the after-school program and served in the food bank.
Sister Annette had a great love for the children she taught as well as a concern for their families and was known to have a kind heart and a listening ear for those in need.
She is survived by her dearly loved sisters, Geraldine Wisniewski of Trenton, NJ and Mary Yenny of Florida, many loving and caring nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community.
Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22 Watchung, NJ on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Wake from 9:00 to 11:00 am, with the Welcome Home Service at 9:45 am; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.
Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ
