Obituary of Sonya Shimkus

Sonya (Gorbosky) Shimkus, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at the Chelsea in Warren. Born in Newark, she had resided in Livingston, Berkeley Heights and Warren for the past 54 years. Prior to retiring Sonya worked for Linde in Murray Hill doing clerical work. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and was known for her cooking, especially her chocolate chip cookies. Predeceased by her husband Edward Shimkus. Survived by her daughters Carol of Basking Ridge and Lorraine and her husband Frank of Somerville MA; grandchildren Eric of Warren and Amber of Manchester NH. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 3-6 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.
