Obituary of Raymond D. Howell

Raymond D Howell, age 89, passed away at JFK Medical Center in Edison.  Mr. Howell was born and raised in Jersey City and had resided in Plainfield for the past 56 years.

Mr. Howell had a promising baseball career, playing shortstop in AA baseball league.  Although he put his baseball career aside to enlist in the US Navy at the age of 17, becoming one of the youngest sailors.   During his Naval service, he served on the USS Manchester.

After his military service ended, he went to Seton Hall University receiving his BA in business administration.  He became a registered certified public accountant that went on to be comptroller for Newark, Jersey City, Hoboken, and retiring out of North Bergen.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Howell in 2002 and his beloved son William Howell in 1967.

He is survived by his two children, Kathleen Doud and her husband Michael and Richard Howell; six grandchildren, Kira Cejnowski, Lisa Cejnowski, John Cejnowski, Katherine Riddle, Michele Doud-Chambers, and Rachel Doud; five great-grandchildren, Kyra, Knox, Oden, Nicholas, and Alyssa.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019, at 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069 followed by an 11:00 am funeral service at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Foundation or the Leukaemia Foundation.
