Obituary of Angela M. Melillo
Angela Melillo, age 90, of Basking Ridge, NJ went to be with the Lord after a battle against cancer on June 4, 2019 at her home in Basking Ridge. She was born on August 4, 1928 to Nicholas and Anna Mostello in Newark, NJ.
She married Matthew in 1947 with whom she had 4 sons. She attended Barringer High School and worked for the government during the War. In 1952 the family left the city and moved to Warren where they happily raised their boys.
Angela was secretary to the Board of Education in Warren. In this position she worked diligently for the right to a proper education for the handicapped. Her devotion in the care of her son, Matthew, enabled her to think beyond the existing programs available for the handicapped and develop new frontiers in this area of NJ.
She was a communicant at Our Lady of the Mount for 65 years. She was a devoted caretaker to her late husband and son. Her family enjoyed her sense of humor and skill as an excellent Italian cook and baker. In later years her greatest joy was spending time with her 8 great-grandsons who always made her laugh heartily.
Angela was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Matthew, her parents, her brother, Patrick and her first-born son Matthew.
She has left behind her adoring family, Gary and Sharon of Hampton, NJ, Thomas and Sue of Mebane, NC, Mark and Karen of Hillsborough, NJ and her best friend and sister Ann Ciufo of Warren. She also had 9 grandchildren Michael, Christiana, Daniel, Nicholas, Renee, John, Andrew, Christopher and Ryan and 8 great-grandsons Gabriel, Uriel, Landon, Dylan, Christian, Lucas, Vincent and Myles.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019, from 3-7 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral gathering will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel, Warren. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleums, Piscataway.
