Obituary of Albert Charles Jackson
Albert Charles Jackson, age 85, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital.
Al, the oldest of 7, was born in 1933 in Newark, NJ to parents Albert Andrew Jackson and Nellie Jackson, who raised him there for four years before the family moved to Roselle, NJ. He attended Abraham Clark High school where he played football, baseball and was an accomplishmented saxaphone player.
He served as a member of the Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and served with honor. In 1963, he moved with his wife Pat, to Scotch Plains, where he has lived ever since.
He served in the Postal Service for 25 years. In 1988, he retired from USPS to become a Travel Agent, starting at Park Travel in Scotch Plains before eventually becoming a Partner at the South Plainfield Branch, and over the course of this career he developed a passion for exploring the world, such that his family could not recall a place where he hadn’t visited. Al also operated as a licensed Real-estate agent.
Deeply motivated by a desire to help his fellow man, he was an active member of the Scotch Plains Baptist Church, and was heavily involved with the Optimist International Club, achieving the position of Lieutenant Governor in that organization, as well as handing out bibles with the Gideon International. He served the community in many different ways over the years through serving as a member of the Juvenile Conference Committee for 20 years and also involed more recently as poll master for Scotch Plains. Another favorite activity of his was attending Rutgers football games with his son, Michael, a Rutgers graduate and singing in the choir.
Albert is predeceased by his brothers Curt Jackson and Gleason Jackson. He is survived by his wife Patricia Jackson, his son Michael Jackson and his wife Hildy, his daughter Carol Jackson-Reed and her husband Derek, his brother Carl Jackson(Allison), his sister Joyce Ramsey (Harrison), his brother Stanley Jackson (Fawn), his sister Sharon Davis (Steven) and sisters-in-law Brenda and Miriam; he is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Samantha Rebimbas, Amanda Rebimbas, and Megan Rebimbas, Hope Reed, and Joy Reed, and 1 great-grandchild, Jaelynn Rebimbas. He will be missed by a very large extended family, friends and the community at large.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
