Obituary of Sara J. DeMatteo

Sara “Sally” J. (Fisher) DeMatteo, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at her home in Watchung, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Plainfield, she had lived in Dunellen and North Plainfield before moving to Watchung in 1961.

Sara was a homemaker who took pride in her home and family.  She also worked as her husband’s bookkeeper/office manager for their family business,DeMatteo Builders, Inc., in Watchung for 50 years.

Sara was a member of Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung.  She enjoyed traveling, spending time on the beach, cooking, eating out and spending time with family and friends.  Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will be missed by all who loved her dearly.

Predeceased by her son-in-law Anthony Mita in 2019 and her siblings John Brogley, Bette Colburn and Joseph Fisher.

Survived by her loving husband Pio DeMatteo; children Susan Gavin and her husband Dave, Lisa DeMatteo and her husband Ken Voss, Cindy Mita and Saralin Flohn and her husband Drew;  grandchildren Kelly Cupit, Andrew Gavin, Jacqueline Picard, Margot Dolbier, Kyle Mita, Andrea Flohn and Bill Flohn; great-grandchildren Ben, Kacey, Juliet, Tripp, Nathan, Oliver, Colette and one on the way.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ.  A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Somerset Hill Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ.
