Obituary of Wolfgang G Gerhard
Wolfgang Gerhard, age 81, passed away on Saturday, December 7th, 2019 at Phoebe Nursing Home in Allentown, PA. He was born in Germany, and moved to Roselle, NJ in 1967. He then resided in North Plainfield for many years before moving to Effort, PA in 2006.
Before moving to America, Wolfgang served as an Officer in the German Air Force. While living in America he was employed as a Master Mechanic for Jennewein Volkswagen in Linden, NJ. Wolfgang also managed their joint hair salon, Shear Pleasure, in North Plainfield, NJ.
Faith and worship were a priority for Wolfgang. He was a member of Watchung Avenue Presbyterian Church in North Plainfield, NJ for many years, and recently as a member of the United Methodist Church in Effort, PA.
Wolfgang was very active in his spare time and enjoyed many hobbies. In addition to building model airplanes and cars, he loved the beach, fishing and boating. His passion was cars, and he participated in the Mexican 1000 Race in Baja, California. Wolfgang enjoyed all types of music, especially Elvis Presley, and his love of music led him to have his own band. After he left the band, he continued to play the guitar and harmonica. He loved his wife and children very deeply and shared with them his respect for humanity and love for all animals.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Wolfgang is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Reverend Erika Beer Gerhard; a daughter Gabriele Gerhard; a son Kai Gerhard (Heidi); a grandson Justin Rowinski (Catarina) and their daughter Emilia. He is also survived by a nephew Michael Gerhard.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, December 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Mountainside Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside, N.J., and on Sunday, December 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Effort, P.A.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
