Obituary of Sr.Mary Emeric Pitonyak
Sister Mary Emeric Pitonyak, Sister of Mercy.
Sister Mary Emeric, 87 died peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, NJ.
Sister Mary Emeric, the former Elizabeth Pitonyak, was born in Rossiter, PA and at an early age the family moved to Trenton, NJ where she attended St Peter and Paul School and Cathedral High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1947 and later received a BS degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court College and MA degree in Education from Seton Hall University.
Her teaching career brought her to St. Nicholas, Atlantic City; St. Joseph, Keyport; St. Mary, South Amboy; St. Matthew, Edison; St. Joseph, Bound Brook
and Holy Cross, Rumson. She was a well revered teacher for more than 50 years.
She is survived by her dearly loved sister, Helen Pitonyak, nephews, Andrew, Jr. and Thomas Pitonyak all from Trenton and many cousins and Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community.
She was predeceased by her parents Imrich and Mary Pitonyak, sister, Sister Mary Evelyn and brother, Andrew Pitonyak, Sr.
Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22 Watchung, NJ on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Wake from 9:30 to 11:00 am, with the Welcome Home Service at 9:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Trenton, NJ
