My heart goes out to the family of Deanne "Coach D." and the entire North Plainfield community. Her support and positivity made the toughest track workout fun, and wanting to make her proud kept us pushing the pace. Words cannot express how much her support meant to me and I truly believe she is running with angels now.

My heartfelt sympathies to Deanne's loved ones. I was privileged to work with her at North Plainfield Public Schools. She was a unique person who loved her work, her family, her students, and her friends. She was always willing to help whenever and wherever she could. I remember her unique ability to remember everyone's favorite candy and she always seemed to have it for you! Fly high with the angels Deanne. You will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear this. I have been with the mentor program for only the past couple of years but as everyone else is mentioning, Deanne's commitment to her students and resilience fighting such an impossible disease was clearly evident. She sure got a lot from her students and gave them even more than she got. My sincere condolence to her family and the school community on such a loss <3

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Deanne. I got to know her well when she agreed to have her science classes participate in the IBM mentoring program. With her assistance and dedication, we were able to implement the program which was a huge success. I especially enjoyed our annual trips to IBM in New York to get the program underway. Deanne was an excellent teacher who always went the extra mile . She was truly an asset to the North Plainfield School District and will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to her family.

We often met each other outside, coming from or going to work, with shovels in hand, or -my favorite- when we had nowhere to be and could just spend time chatting. My puppy always gushed at the sight or sound of Deanne. She just had the best spirit. Deanne will be missed dearly by many, for sure!

Deanne was not only my cousin, but my goddaughter. In that, I was blessed. I will never forget our trip to Buffalo, Francis (brother, cousin) n I were going to become godparents. We were going to baptize Deanne. Driving up to Buffalo I recall was so much fun. We even had extra passengers (nuns from The catholic school) we were driving in a snowstorm. Finally, we arrived. I was 13-14, n so proud to be a godmother! I don’t remember how we all slept but I do remember standing up at that alter with Deanne in my arms.
Deanne and I didn’t do a lot of physical things together because of my limitations, but we were connected. Nonetheless, Deanne n I communicated via regular mail! I even recall when the family was moving from Buffalo to Jersey. I went with my Uncle several times to help him paint the house they were moving into. I was going to see all my cousins more, like holidays n such.
I periodically would send Deanne hello cards, or notes. I would send Holiday, birthday gifts, always with a note. Just letting her know I care. I had just sent some cards to Deanne. Lydia had text me that Deanne was having A tough time of late. I went and sent her fun projects to keep her mind occupied, cards, little activities, even musical cards. Writing her little notes, telling her I was blessed to have her in my life, even though we were mostly writing partners. She sent me a beautiful note in return. Deanne was thanking me, for all the thoughtful exchanges we had through the years. Deanne appreciated n enjoyed, knowing I was there all this time. Then I remembered, many years ago we were at her mom n dads house, and she took me to her room,. Deanne began to show me her collections, and the gifts I had given her through the years. I said to her, mom did a great job matching the cousins to her siblings as godparents. There were similarities between us, and I remember saying to Deanne, we are similar who would’ve known, just don’t get my disease. We laughed n joked- she was into sports, athletics, and being physical, and I never was able to. So I said to Deanne, see, mom did match us, I couldn’t be physical so you (deanne) would do that for me!
I remember when she bought her house it was exciting. I joked , “ like big people”. Deanne was more matter of factly about it.
I am so thankful to have her in my life, being her godparent meant something to me. I always wanted her to know how special she was. Her note to me thanked me for making her feel special. I will miss our little communications, I will miss your beautiful smile. I will miss knowing you are there. Always n forever, your cousin, your godmother Rosemarie
Thank you

My fondest memories of Deanne are all of them! Many included Karen, our good friend and college Tennis Coach. We would all sing in the van while traveling, eat together, goof-off and be serious together. Deanne and I would do whatever campus jobs Karen would give us for $5 an hour and Pizza! Deanne was always generous and uplifting, bringing her family to California where we all ate breakfast overlooking the Santa Monica Airport Runway. She was always fun, meeting my partner and I in New York to share a few days at the US Open. She always made me smile and laugh; shaking her head back and forth just a little to let you know what she was thinking. Deanne was the kindest, most selfless person that I have ever met. I will miss her tremendously. My personal thank you goes out to Deanne’s mom and sisters who have always welcomed me and given us all a chance to create special memories.

Deanne was a twirler in the marching band. I, along with Deanne and the Brown twins, Colleen, and Cheryl were on the squad when I joined. She and the other wonderful ladies taught me to twirl the baton and we had such a great time together. I will remember Deanne so very fondly and will miss her so very much. May the Lord bless and keep you, Deanne. <3

North Plainfield has lost one of its shining stars who will be missed by all those people whose lives Deanne touched. In thinking of her, some “d” words come to mind: devoted to her family and friends, dedicated to her profession, a dynamic teacher and coach for her students, diligent in everything she did, and who fought her last battle with determination and dignity. May she now rest peacefully. Quiet thoughts, in sympathy.
