Obituary of Babs Bernstein
Babs Bernstein, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Daughters of Israel in West Orange, NJ. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Babs was a vibrant presence in the Westfield and South Orange communities for most of her life.
A formidable and glamorous woman, Babs was known for her impeccable taste, sharp sense of humor, and artistic flare. Babs honed her cosmopolitan style and artist’s eye through decades of international travel. She was also an avid sports fan and an animal lover; her most beloved pet was her Bouvier, Sugar.
As a young woman, Babs worked as a technician at Muhlenberg Hospital and met Stanley, her husband, while living in Plainfield. Babs went on to become a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Known as Babeez to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she delighted in their activities and achievements, along with the fabulous family events she was known for hosting.
Her husband Stanley Bernstein predeceased her in 2013.
She is survived by her children, Douglas Bernstein and Dede Kotler; five grandchildren including Jennifer Trupchak and her husband Scott, Brooke Levy and her husband Sam, Harry Bernstein and his fiancé Tammy, Margot Kotler, and Max Kotler; and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Will. Jayne Bernstein and Alice Brown also loved and were devoted to Babs.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday March 17, 2020 at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, located at 189 Gill Lane, Iselin, NJ 08830.
