Sorry for my delayed tribute...I finally found what I was looking for! What a special Aunt my AJ was. I will always cherish the bond we had and I'm not really sure how or when it formed! I always admired her for her fun personality, warm smile and sense of 'silliness', her dedication to caring for Granpop, not to mention her dedication to writing poems and sharing with those she loved.
After Ruthie had died and I drove home from college for the funeral, I vividly remember driving on I-81 in Pennsylvania and looking up into the beautiful clouds above and seeing something in the clouds that told me Ruthie was safe and sound in Heaven with our Lord and Savior. It comforted me and I remember sharing what I saw either at the funeral or just with family. Several years later, in 1993, I received a letter in mail from Aunt Junie. In it was a picture of clouds with a rainbow. Aunt Junie wrote me a short note to say that the picture was the cover of her church bulletin that week and it reminded her of Ruthie. Also in the bulletin was a writing about the 'Dawn' and AJ said it made her think of me, perhaps because of my story about the clouds I had shared at Ruthie's funeral. Part of the writing said the following: "Whether or not I am ready for another day, the day is before me with all its significance as a day "the Lord has made." If I needed a new beginning, it has been given me. If yesterday and the night have been troubled, the dawn enters by consciousness and heals my pain. Morning tells me both that I can make a new start and that I must." Aunt June sure did live every day to the fullest! I have been praying for you Norma, Anna and Billy and your families was you continue to grieve the loss of your beautiful Mom. I pray that each day gets a little easier as you cherish fond memories in your heart.
Several more years later,, AJ sent me a copy of one of her writings about clouds. It was dated July 3, 1998. I have kept this writing, and her note and church bulletin copies in my nightstand all of these years and would come across it whenever I cleaned or reorganized. I would read it again and smile; it is something I always cherished from AJ. Here is what she wrote:
Watching clouds, one of my favorite pastimes. Gently, slowly moving in an unending search, for what? They soothe my mind and body when tiredness arrives, and I sit, finally.
I watch the clouds more intensely these past few weeks, searching, perhaps, for changes that might reveal a certainty of life.
Do you suppose God will show me a sign in these clouds someday soon? I think so.
I keep watching constantly now. Inevitably, the sign will come, and a sweet, loving soul will gently float away, as if on a cloud, into God's loving arms." [signed] aj
May you find Peace that passes all understanding with the knowledge that Aunt June is at Peace in God's House as if on a soft and gentle cloud. I can't wait to hear the poem she is writing now from her new resting place :)
Loved your Mom and Love you all, Linda

Norma,
I am so sorry to hear of your mothers passing. Josef notified me today. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I know you have always been a wonderful, loving, caregiver to both your parents. You give so much to all the people you interact with.
Even though I cannot be there to share in your pain, know that I share the sense of loss with you, as I remember the loss of my mother, just over 3 years ago. Hopefully when the world returns to normal soon, I can pay my respects in some more tangible way. Take care.

Hey Grammy. I miss you. I love you. You were always so kind and goofy. I wish I’d called you more often. My main regret, however, is not writing you a letter. About a year ago you wrote me a short story about little missy in the garden. You provided me with a blank sheet of lines paper and told me to write my own. I never did. I set it aside and forgot about it. I wish I had. I’ve written one now to make it up to you. I hope you like it.
The frost tipped blades of sit in a still, elegant beauty, untouched by human or wild. Holding on to the cold as the snow melts around them. A perfect balance.
Two forms stand over it. One lean and tall, the other smaller. A fawn and her mother.
Dipping her elegant head, the doe reaches down to eat an apple that had been tossed out in front of her. She tips her head up to the sky, sniffing the crisp air and watching the fluffy clouds float by. She glances over to the forest then back to her fawn. The two touch noses. A simple gesture of love and gratitude.
The doe raises her head one last time. And turns towards the forest, walking through the tangle of branches and disappearing behind the trees. The fawn simply watches. Her dark eyes fixed as her mother leaves.
As the sun sets on a Sunday in March, a girl steps out to her back porch. It wasn’t a particularly nice night. Rain pattered on the roof, a repetitive and calming sound. She sees what she’s seen for the past year or so. A buck standing on the hill, silhouetted by the setting sun. This time, however, is different. A doe walks out from the forest and stands next to the buck as the clouds part slightly, sending a faint ray of sunshine on the two. The girl smiles.

Thank you AJ for being the most perfect godmother - and Aunt! Upon reading I never knew that you lived in MD - that surprised me as I ALWAYS remember you being in my life. You were so loving and kind and especially funny! We all loved the great Halloween costumes you and Dad put on, and crashed parties with. I will never forget when you came to my son Brian's kindergarten class, dressed as Witchy Poo and put on a show for the kids!! The absolutely loved it!!! You were an incredible poet and graced us with your beautiful words during many occasions. I am so happy that you were blessed with Ken and that you are now together - along with Mom. I will miss you terribly you wonderful woman!
