Obituary of Ralph Maier
Ralph Maier, 92, of Warren, New Jersey, formerly of Frederick, Maryland, Stirling NJ, and Alexandria, VA died from complications caused from coronavirus on April 4, 2020. Ralph, an only child, was born to Tillie and John "Hans" Maier on January 30th, 1928 on the north side of Chicago.
After graduating high school, Ralph served in the Navy for 4 years and developed expertise with electronics and sonar systems. Ralph returned to Chicago and started his career at Motorola. He moved to Western Electric and spent the remainder of his distinguished 40 year career as an executive within the Bell System. In 1954 he married the love of his life Dolly, to whom he was devoted for 64 years. Together, they raised three children while living in Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland. Ralph as a young man loved to see Errol Flynn movies, read, and could really dance. He had a great dry sense of humor, a joke for every occasion, and natural intelligence. He was an accomplished bridge player and found great satisfaction volunteering as a fireman in Forest View, IL and later at Frederick Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Room. Ralph enjoyed attending live theater performances and took many exciting trips to New Zealand, Europe, and South America.
Survivors include three children, Curt Maier of Bellevue, Washington, Paula Schmidt of Warren, NJ, Eric Maier of Falls Church, VA and their spouses; granddaughters Katie & Stacy Maier, and grandson Graham Schmidt.
The family wishes to thank those who have extended emotional support to Ralph these last few years, especially after Dolly passed away. Under the circumstances, we are unable to hold a service. Kindly remember Ralph along with all the others who have succumbed to this virus as you continue to donate to your local coronavirus-related healthcare worker funds and support local businesses.
