Obituary of Philomena Gyurian
Philomena B. Gyurian of Watchung, loving Mother, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
Philomena was born and raised in Rome, New York and was the daughter of Angelo and Anna Rose Biancucci. She was one of four children and the sister of Jack, Salvatore, and Peter who all predeceased her. Philomena was married to Joseph K. Gyurian, who passed away October, 1988. She is survived by her loving Son, Joseph M. Gyurian and Daughter-In-Law, Frances C. Harcarik; and Philomena’s loving Daughter, Diane M. Gyurian. Philomena has 3 step-grandchildren, Kimberly Harcarik and Husband Robert Kozick, Andrew Harcarik, and Michael Harcarik.
Early in her career, she was a supervisor and overseas operator at New York Telephone while attending Syracuse University. She then became a military operator at Rome SAC Base in Rome, New York. While living in Watchung, she was Assistant Watchung Borough Court Clerk, and then later a telephone operator at Bell Labs in Murray Hill.
Philomena enjoyed volunteering in her community. She joined the Watchung Rescue Squad in the late 1960’s and was one of the first three women members at that time. She was also Den Mother in the Cub Scouts and Webelos for a number of years and enjoyed every moment of it.
She loved her family. As a child, she especially loved her summers spent on her grandparent’s farm in Upstate New York. In her adult life, she loved being a homemaker, especially taking pride in raising her children, cooking and decorating her home. She also enjoyed bowling.
Philomena will be sadly missed by her Family and will remain forever in our hearts.
