I knew Steve in West New York where we attended Hebrew School and Memorial High School. We met again at our 50th high school reunion. When I think of Steve, I see his smiling face, and hear his laughter. May he rest in Peace.

Ralph and I are deeply saddened for we will miss our dear friend Steve so much. We have so many wonderful memories that will last our lifetime. He was always cheerful, helpful, and sincere. A true friend. We shared so many fun times: vacations, weddings, holidays, and dinners out together. We were there for each other during the down times. Our condolences to Sondy who we treasure so close to our hearts as well as Erica, Dale, and the family. When we think of Steve, we see his handsome face and his beautiful smile.

Steven was a man of indomitable character, fortitude and confidence. These attributes were at the core essence of his being and defined who he was, which is the reason why he touched so many hearts. He was so consistent and dependable, which one could witnessed in every conversation and meeting he had since his delivery was always so true and natural. There were no pretenses, no charades, no dog and pony shows . With a wealth of knowledge, experience, and common sense, his first instinct was to share that with everyone in an effort to enhance their lives. And, without fail, in a humbling, respectful and considerate manner. He was also an excellent listener. One of his remarkable gifts was his ability to assess and understand each perspective in every setting. In doing this, and with Steve’s enduring humility, he was the best person I ever knew in analyzing, mediating, and solving problems. I was blessed to know Steve as a friend, business associate, sage and mentor. He is a verifiable legend in the coin-op Industry. Why is he such, because of his integrity, ingenuity, and his love & passion for our Industry. Steve would spend hours assisting and providing guidance, and this was the key, to anyone that asked for help. And, in most cases, except for the fact knowing he had counseled someone once again, and with no other benefit to him, he was always pleasant and cordial. Quite frankly, it was actually to his detriment since it would delay him from spending time with the greatest love of his life, initially with Sondy, then with his precious daughters, Erica, and Dale, then Rob & Brian, then all his grandchildren.
A person’s life is defined by the indelible imprints they create. By that criteria, Steve had a tremendously successful life. A life that will live on, just not in our memories, it’s because he left a little piece of himself in everything he was involved in. Just think about how much more pleasant, congenial, hospitable, peaceful, and kind this world would be if Steve had been able to touch millions of lives instead of thousands of lives. And then there was that perpetual and infectious smile, the kiss to the cheek, and the warm hug. That image is the one that will always stay with us. With all our love-Joe & Charlotte

We have been close friends for a very long time with Steven and Sondy and have shared many incredible times together. Steven and Mike played softball and volleyball together for years and played pretty well for 2 Jewish guys. Steven was also fun to play poker with, even when he was whipping our butts. We loved hearing the Steven and Sondy "origin story", including how they met and the first time he met Sondy's parents. We remember being at Erica's and Dale's weddings---seeing the joy and pride on Steven's face and seeing how much the girls adored him further confirmed what a wonderful person he was. We're so thankful we had the chance to facetime with Steven shortly before he passed away and will always remember his little kiss as we spoke. It is impossible to express how much we will both miss Steven, but we will always have him in our hearts.
We love you Steven, jere + mike mitzner

Sondy, Erica, Dale and Family:
Our hearts are heavy, filled with so much sadness. We are so very sorry to hear about Steve's/your father’s passing.
I will always love Steve and remember him playing softball with us in the Ponytail League all those years ago. His big smile (even his eyes smiled when he did) lit up a room, his kind heart, his spirited laugh, Steve always made me feel comfortable. The love Steve had for his girls is imprinted in my mind. Steve was as paternal as they come and I can only imagine what an amazing grandfather he was.
Sending love and healing thoughts your way.
Rest in Peace Steve.
Love,
Emily Mantell Golden (and family)

I will always hold a very special place in my heart for my wonderful cousin Steve. More like a brother than a cousin. He always worked hard to make sure our families would get together in North Carolina each summer, no excuses. He continued to foster family get togethers, even when we moved to California.
I will miss his warmth, kindness and humor. xoxo

Bruce and Ellyn Mantell are so saddened by Steve's passing. Almost immediately upon our moving to Watchung in 1984, we met Steve and Sondy, and he and Bruce became involved in coaching and administering the Girls Softball Leagues in town. Steven was always so warm and friendly, easy to be with, easy to enjoy. After our daughters left home, and Bruce and Steven found the game of golf, they shared many memories on the golf course, mostly at Twin Brooks Country Club and at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida, during the 20 years of the annual Applebaum Invitational Golf Tournament. Those were great times for the guys, and Sondy and I got to know each other better as the golf widows.
Steven will be missed...his smile was who he was.

Starting on the first day of college through marriage, kids, grandkids we all evolved into family. A lot of joy, some pain, and about most of what life can throw at us it was all good. Steve never waived on his love Of Sondi and the kids nor on life itself. Always a smile and a wink.
Our condolences to all of the family.
That twinkle in his eyes will live with us.
We miss ya already.

Steven has been my most wonderful brother-in-law since 1971. Our families have shared so many good times together over the years. One of his/our favorite holidays was the annual ""Thanksgiving Family Food Feast" gathering. Food made him a happy man, always smiling. We also were able to celebrate our November birthdays together along with Dale and our son, Leigh. I know we will miss him something fierce, but are grateful to have had him part of the "best times of our lives." Love to all the family and others who will miss him, too.

I was in Beijing in January 1996. I had a cold and I was working out on the treadmill in my hotel. I was by myself and feeling alone. I was watching CNN International. The next thing I knew, they were doing an interview with Steven at the arcade. Although I still had my cold, I did not feel so alone anymore. My friend was there with me. I have never forgotten that moment and I will never forget Steve's kindness and compassion. I have lost an amazing friend. It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to one of the best people I have ever known. Thank you for being a part of my life.

Dear Sondy, Erica and Dale, and families it is with immense sadness that I write this today. Steven was one of a kind man. He had endless love for everyone and I recall special love for all of our (Sondy's) family. I recall him at several occasions over the years and remember going to your Wedding at the Oaks Inn in Springfield, MA. It was a beautiful event and I"m happy I was there to witness. I more recently recall when you both (Sondy and Steven) attended Christine and Al's wedding. It was so wonderful to see you there and to have you for brunch the next day. I truly enjoyed Steve's company as he always was happy and had a smile on his face. Steven was also instrumental in helping Michael, Christine and Al out at my surprise birthday party by helping to get more supplies and also with the food and the clean up. I believe you both were the first to arrive and the last to leave. I recall sitting around after everyone else left and opening presents with both of you there. For me to have both of you there was a special moment that I'll always treasure. You both warmed my heart. Thank you. I'm so sorry for your loss but so happy you had him all these years because Steven was a wonderful man who loved his family more than life. Love to you all and my deepest sympathy. Betty Ann
