Howard was an excellent EMS educator and EMT. He taught many of our first aid courses at Ethicon and I always learned something new from him. Howard and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I will miss my Uncle Howard and, while saddened by his death, celebrate the truly remarkable life he lived and all the people he touched while on this Earth. I have fond memories of spending time with my Uncle Howard, Russell, Howie, and our Grandma Bixler in Rogers Park, Chicago and on cross-country trips. Uncle Howard introduced me to comedy albums as well as the Tijuana Brass and drove cool cars, like a GTO. My sincere sympathies and love go out to JoAnne, Howard, Russ, and your families. JoAnne, you definitely were his soulmate. I wish you all strength in the days ahead and comfort in your memories of Howard. Much love, Carol Schmidtke

Howard was a fine man, with a great wit and possessed of intelligence that would make many envious. May he rest in the eternal embrace of the peace of Christ and God give you strength to deal with your loss.

Howard was a mentor and instructor to me and many others on the Martinsville Rescue Squad. He always took the time to explain his actions in clear and understandable ways. My heart goes out to you, Joanne, in this difficult time.

I always enjoyed going on calls with Howard. His instincts were sharp and he was great at getting patients to relax. But more than that, I truly enjoyed and looked forward to our conversations on the way back from a call. We mostly discussed politics, happily disagreeing on pretty much everything, debating policies and strategies past and present. Howard was a mensch and will be deeply missed.

I will always remember Uncle Howard as being such an energetic, outgoing and caring person. He was always so much younger than his years - his energy amazed me. JoAnne, I'm glad he was able to have such an active and happy life with you. JoAnne, Howard and Russell, my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you at this sad time. Love, Diane Ciardiello
