Obituary of Anne Steinbrenner

Bridgewater; Anne Taylor Steinbrenner, age 77, passed away on June 23rd, 2020 at The Chelsea at Bridgewater. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Richard T. Steinbrenner in 2016. She is survived by her brother, Charles F. Taylor II of Naperville, IL; a son Ted and his wife Allison Polin of Alice Springs, Australia; two daughters Marjorie King and her husband Karl of Bridgewater NJ, and Cathy Steinbrenner and her husband David Whale of Reston VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ryan and David King, Lindsey and Eli Steinbrenner, as well as Samantha, Nina and Tyler Whale. She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Taylor Schultz in 2004. Ms. Steinbrenner was born in Suffolk, Virginia, the daughter of George Lummis Taylor and Marjorie Norfleet Taylor. When she was sixteen, her family moved to Madison, New Jersey, where she graduated from Madison High School. In the two years she attended the high school she made an impression and earned recognition as "Friendliest." Although she lived in New Jersey for more than sixty years, she never lost her charming Southern accent. She attended Westhampton College at University of Richmond as well as Katharine Gibbs School in Boston, which was at the time known as the "Harvard of Secretarial Schools." She worked at Bell Labs in Whippany, New Jersey, where she met her future husband. During their courtship, they participated in the company bowling league. After becoming engaged, she worked at Silver Burdett until starting a family, at which time she became a "stay-at-home" mom and volunteer. She was a talented seamstress, sewing a variety of costumes for Halloween and school productions, sundresses, and mother/daughter dresses. She passed down her love of sewing to both of her daughters. She also loved to entertain at her Warren home of fifty years, during which time she hosted many neighborhood parties, showers, and dinner parties. She was a skilled bridge player and participated in several groups throughout her life. A thoughtful and giving person, she was known for putting the needs of others, especially her family, ahead of her own. She embraced all of her family's interests, such as baseball, trains, and music. As long as she was with her family, she was happy. In 2014, she and her husband celebrated 50 years of marriage at the Old Mill Inn, site of their wedding reception, as well as several other family milestones. The dinner party was attended by longtime friends, neighbors, and family members. When asked the secret to a long marriage, her husband simply said, "find the right girl." As a loving grandmother, she cared for her grandchildren whenever possible and was affectionately known as Ohnie, Nana, and Grandma. She enjoyed family vacations to Illinois, Virginia, Gettysburg, Lake Placid, the Outerbanks of North Carolina, as well as a 40th Anniversary trip to London, one of her life's dreams since she had seen Queen Elizabeth II during her 1957 visit to Jamestown, VA. The interment will be at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union NJ.
