Ed was one of the most generous, hard working and dynamic people I had ever met. He loved Maria intensely as well as his family. I was fortunate to have both a working relationship (though Continental Airlines) and a friendship outside of work. He was able to "get things done" for Continental, opening parking lots, creating busing and filing everything in between. We were both diehard Yankee fans and I was blessed enough to sit with Ed through the glory years of 1998-2000 in his fabulous bleacher seats in old Yankee Stadium. He always had a law enforcement badge that could keep us on the streets and a bat at the ready if needed for the bad guys. He always had an answer for any problem - and would give you the shirt off his back. While we grew apart in recent years, he never left my soul. You'll never be forgotten Ed, one of the truly great guys to walk this earth. Keep a seat for the game open.

Ed will be missed by all, especially UNICO Raritan Valley, of which he was the president. He actively made the community a better place: Whether hosting veterans at Picatinny Arsenal with BBQ, a musician and kayaking, cleaning up cemetery, donating to charities...(etc, sometimes anonymously). Now Ed is making heaven a better place, if that’s possible! Until we meet again, Ed is enjoying eternity.

Uncle Eddie was a light in our family's world. He was kind, attentive, and gentle to all of us. I will especially miss his sweet smile and the way he always told me how I look so much like my Grandma Cleo. He really knew how to love and be loved! Thank you, Uncle Ed, for being so cool and for treating me with unconditional love. What a blessing you have been to my life and this world. I send my love and condolences to his dear family. Ed, as you enter heavens gate you are in a better place, at ease and pain free.

You are the wind, the sun and the waves.

Ed came into my life at a very special time. When I first met him, I instantly liked and respected him. I very much enjoyed our relationship over the years. I retired from the Navy and we would always banter back and forth about the Navy versus the Army. Ed is a true patriot and a great man. He was always willing to help people and causes and he made a difference in the lives of so many. Ed will be missed. I count my blessings that our paths crossed. He made me a better person. I didn't know it at the time, when we were in high school that, Ed would become a dear friend. We shared high school experiences which lead to good times and laughter. My military service pulled me away from New Jersey and as a result we separated and our lives took us in different directions, only to meet up again in later life. I will miss Ed. He was an inspiration to me as well as others and his dedication to his associations will live on in his honor. I wish I had had the opportunity to return home to Jersey more often and spend time with Ed. As a vet he helped me to understand some of the issues as a result of returning home from a war zone. Now Ed is no longer in pain and will share all that is good in Heaven, for all the good deeds he shared on Earth. I will be forever grateful for Ed, to be among those he called friend.

My sincerest condolences to Maria and the Danberry family. Ed was a remarkable individual. Anyone who had the opportunity to meet Ed was truly touched and affected by his kindness, generosity and friendship. This loss is not just a loss for those who loved Ed or who had the opportunity to meet him. This truly is a loss to humanity and to this Country. Ed was someone to look up to and was a person who gave his heart and soul to anyone and everyone. If you looked up the the following words in the dictionary kindness, loving, generous, mentor, selfless, friend, humanitarian, philanthropist, faithful, volunteer, husband and father the first definition would be Ed Danberry. Thank you Ed for allowing me the opportunity to get to know you. You truly impacted my life and I am grateful and honored for you being a friend and mentor. I hope all of us as a society could follow Ed's path and if so this world truly would be a better place and a wonderful world!!! Rest in piece and God Bless. You will be truly missed.

My sincere condolences to Eds family. I remember Ed from when my family lived on Bell Ave in Raritan until 1956. Ed and I and, I believe it was Tommy Garrow, used to ride around Raritan on our bicycles after school. I exchanged emails with Ed earlier this year and was looking forward to meeting up with him again after all these years at the UNICO Harvest Moon Dance fund raiser in November. I remember him as being a kind fellow and enjoyed his friendship back then. I am in awe of all he had accomplished in his life and truly sad to learn of his passing. God bless and comfort you all.

Maria, and the Danberry Family. The world lost a great man. Ed's service to community and veterans will be a huge void with his passing. The Basilone Parade will never be the same. If I couldn't make something happen, or come to fruition for the parade, I went to Ed. He made it happen. I greatly admired Ed. He was a man of great integrity and character. I will always carry that with me. A true role model. He made me a better person. My deepest condolences to all.

Dear Maria, family and friends, I believe we can carry on Ed’s charitable nature in our own lives. I am praying for peace for Ed’s family and those who mourn his passing. I understand Ed regularly said “ what we do in life echoes in eternity”. I believe this wholeheartedly. I last visited Ed about a month ago to discuss UNICO business. He was short of breath at times but hoped for the best. We prayed for his healing and comfort. Even at this low point, his sense of humor radiated through occasionally. In January, Ed received the Americanism Award. Joyce Walker (active UNICO member, Americanism Award recipient and past president) said it best before her passing “tell Ed I’m happy for him and I’ve always been proud of him”. It was the only subject that brought a smile to her face in my lengthy visit with her. Maria, If I can help in any way, just call.

Edward Vincent Danberry was driven throughout his life to uncover the mystery of his surname, Danberry, its roots, its history----where did the Danberrys come from, how long had they been here, what propelled them to leave their home country and how did they figure into our American history. When Ed and my paths crossed in 1992, I not only found a long lost cousin but my angel and stalwart supporter. Who knew how much we could achieve as a team, as I introduced him to our Great Aunt Gertie, who gifted him with the Danberry family bible allowing him to join the Sons of the American Revolution. I was struck by how Ed, as Vice President of Continental Airlines, flying all over the country, would investigate the name Danberry in whatever city and state he was in, producing a map of all the Danberrys who fought in every war from the Revolutionary War to date. Ed, besides wanting to uncover the history of the Danberry family, along with other notable surnames intertwined with the Danberrys, was and is dedicated first and foremost to honoring our country's servicemen and servicewomen by actions and deeds. Ed has been part of the Basilone Parade Committee, honoring Raritan's hero (Ed is nothing if not a Raritan boy) in a yearly parade held for the last 40 years, and counting. Ed formed a company dedicated to helping our servicemen and servicewomen acclimate themselves back into society by offering jobs, medical assistance and support in obtaining the benefits they so richly deserve. He ran 'Operation Soapbox', dedicated to providing necessaries to our current military servicemen and servicewomen where they are stationed all over the world. Ed constantly came up with new ways to honor and serve our military and veterans. One of his latest projects is the 'American Heroes Smokehouse', a chain of restaurants employing veterans and first responders. Ed received The Garden Club of New Jersey, Inc's Presidential Citation in Autumn's GCNJ's Fall Conference & Presidents Day for his continued support for the Black Swallowtail Butterfly to become New Jersey's Official State Butterfly (Senate Bill S939 passed into law January 11th, 2016), as well as continued support for Polllinators and Wildlife Projects of the GCNJ, Raptor Trust, Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ, and donated the Green Bean Mobile for the Food Pantry in Essex County. Ed eschewed publicity, but did so much for so many worthwhile organizations, and was the most dynamic, energetic force I've ever encountered. Ed's philosophy is summed up in his words "What we do in life echoes in eternity". Ed's love for the Garden State and our country lives on as we follow in his footsteps to make a positive difference for all eternity. Ed, you have my love and gratitude for always and we will meet again as destiny awaits. Meanwhile we will carry your torch for the environment and our beloved Garden State. Jeannie Geremia, cousin and President of The Garden Club of New Jersey.
