Obituary of Walter James Quense
Walter Quense, age 90, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Cranford Health and Extended Care Center. He was born on June 26, 1930 in Jersey City and raised in Bloomfield NJ by his parents John and Estelle Quense. He later resided in Glen Ridge NJ until 1977, when he moved to Berkeley Heights NJ. In 1985 he decided to make Warren, NJ his home, and has resided there since.
Walter graduated from Seton Hall Prep and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from Villanova University. He later went on to earn a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University. Walter is a veteran of the United States Navy. He served in the Korean Conflict.
Walter was employed by NJ Bell and AT&T, as well as The People of Hope.
Walter lived his Catholic Faith deeply and spent his life caring for others and serving God; he was an affiliate of The People of Hope Catholic Charismatic Community.
Walter is predeceased by his father John Quense (1942), his mother Estelle Quense (1988), his older brother Jack Quense (2019), and his son-in-law Mark Helfrich (2020)
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, M. Joanne Quense, and his children, Cathy (Sandy) Alhstrom, John (Mary) Quense, Cindy (Tim) Hughes, Br. Stephen Quense, Paul (Suzanne) Quense, Peter (Mary) Quense, Theresa Helfrich, and Sr. Christine Quense; his sister Jean Anne (Dick) Karins; 35 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church in Watchung; due to Covid 19 restrictions the Funeral Mass will be by invitation only. The Mass and interment will be live streamed. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Cemetery.
