Dear Mrs DiFluri,
I did not have the opportunity to know Bud well, but I do want to express our gratitude for his generous service to the School of Music at Nyack College. Thanks to him, also, our Administrator, Ms Autumn Nova, was encouraged in her role as Professor of Music Business.
Others have spoken of the humor that Bud brought to his position and we are honored to celebrate the memory of a fine musician as well.
May the Lord be with you and may his memory be eternal,
Sue Lane Talley,
Dean, School of Music
Nyack College, Manhattan

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your dear Patriarch, Bud. My Husband, Jim Coffin, now deceased, called Bud, by this endearing name
“Budleigh”. And so it came to be that I too, referred to your dear Father, Husband, and wonderful human being as Budleigh. He periodically checked in with me in Southern California. Bud was a unique man. I never could keep up with his off the beat humor. I am certain my deceased husband, Jim, could keep up with Budleigh’s humor. They were very close Yamaha friends, as they worked together in the music business world. I send my deepest sympathies to the DiFluri family.

Bud was an dedicated professor. His passion for music, business and his students had a profound influence on my life.
Bud taught us to LIBTYFI (Leave It Better Than You Found It) in all aspects of life. He went out of his way to connect with his students. Whether introducing us to Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center or coming out to a dive bar in Hoboken to give his thoughts on your band. He was so intent on equipping us with the learnings and connections to make us successful.
Sharmila and I have had a few chances to travel to NY over the past few years and have always been able to connect with Bud and Joan. They are always so gracious with their time and a pleasure to hang out with.
We love you Bud and look forward to seeing you again, in the Great Everlasting.

Mr. DiFluri encouraged me to play the French horn in the high school band, and it was a wonderful experience. I have fond memories of him, and send my best to all of you.

Mr. Di Fluri was the band teacher at East Orange High School. He had the marching band practice on maneuvers to perform during half time at Football games. One maneuver involved having the Band form a circle (wheel) with spokes. Then after some practice the wheel and spokes would turn while playing. It was a very impressive maneuver done for the first time at the Barringer - East Orange Football game that was played on Thanksgiving day, a tradition that was a rivalry for at least 100 years. Mr. D. put out a call for someone to volunteer to learn the string bass, because the Dance Band we had, at that time, didn't have one. Since I had played the violin for 10 years, I volunteered and, at lunchtime, for several weeks, he taught me to master the string bass and I played it with the school Dance Band. The bass was a school instrument that, on his recommendation, I carried home and played, by ear, to big bands that were on the radio at that time. It really is a beautiful instrument. Now I sing bass in a Barbershop Quartet and Chorus and the training I had back then has proven to be invaluable. After High School. as a student at Rutgers, I was able to recommend the Buddy Dee Band for a party we had at my fraternity House. His Band did a wonderful job with Buddy leading the Band on the microphone. He even supplied some stand up comedy. His trombone playing was as good as Tommy Dorsey. His willingness to tackle complex projects, and his "can do" attitude had an influence on his students as he impacted us in many positive ways. Rest in Peace, Buddy, you will not be forgotten.

To the family and extended family of Bud DiFluri, we want to express our sincere condolences on your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all each and everyday. Bud and Joan have been our beloved neighbors for the past 22 years here in Watchung. We shared Easter and sometimes early Christmas gatherings at our house over many years when we could manage to get together. The stories, oh the stories, of Bud and his vibrant and exciting life will never be forgotten. Joan had a few of her own as well usually involving Bud in some form or fashion. I could always count on seeing Joan and Bud in the bay window having dinner and watching TV as I drove by going to or from our house. We will remember you Bud everyday! Joan, we are always here for you!
Love Jay & Kecia
