Obituary of Oliver Primiano

Oliver "Ollie" Primiano, age 90, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020, surrounded by family at his residence in Martinsville. Mr. Primiano was born in Leavittsburg, Ohio, May 6, 1930 to his parents Elizabeth and Pasquale "Patsy" Primiano. He moved to North Plainfield in 1935 with his family. He was a graduate of North Plainfield High School, class of 1948. He moved to Martinsville in 1955 where he resided until his death. He was a graduate of both the Newark School of Fine Arts and of Rutgers University. Mr. Primiano was employed by Houdaille Construction Materials, Inc. of Morristown, NJ for 29 years and then he worked another 16 years with Weldon Materials, Inc. of Westfield, NJ, as Director of Safety and Environmental Affairs, retiring in 1994. He was also the self-employed owner of Prim-Art Signs. Ollie served his country from 1947 to 1956 as a staff sergeant with 119th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, 108th Fighter Group of New Jersey Air Nation Guard and the United States Air Force Reserve. As a member of AMVETS (American Veterans) Post# 16, Bridgewater, NJ, Mr. Primiano also served as Trustee and Second Vice Commander. He served as Secretary of the Central Jersey Military Motor Pool (CJMMP) and proudly displayed and drove his restored Korean War-era Army Jeep in Military parades. Oliver Primiano was also a private pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and The National Rifle Association (NRA) for 50 years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed shooting, hunting, fishing, boating, golf, and DIY projects. He took great pleasure in vacationing with his family and friends annually to the island of Aruba for 33 years and spending winters at his Florida home for 25 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Furino) Primiano of 67 years. He is predeceased by a son, Thomas. Also surviving are his beloved daughter, Judith L. Bream and her husband, Larry R. Bream of Martinsville and two adored grandchildren, Allison N. Bream and her husband, Travis P. Farrell, and Christopher T. Bream; also a Sister, Mary P. Sweeney of North Plainfield, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held for family and friends on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ 07069 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ARC of Somerset County, or Friends of Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (FOSRAS).
