Obituary of Shyamanandan Shrivastava
Mr. Shyamanandan Shrivastava, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Warren, NJ, surrounded by his loving family on December 18, 2020. Born in Lucknow, India he grew up in Lucknow and New Delhi, and his life’s journey took him to many places spanning India and the globe before he retired in Mumbai, his adopted hometown. But his deep devotion to family led him to move again, this time to Warren, New Jersey where he had been living since 1997 with Nandita, his wife of almost 60 years, his older son, and his son’s family.
Highly educated with a M.A. in History, he was passionate about the subject, and his work as an editor for more than 100 volumes that detailed the life and impact of Mahatma Gandhi, as commissioned by the Government of India, was a source of particular satisfaction. Subsequently, he served in other senior roles for the Indian government, and for New Jersey’s Somerset County Unemployment office. He was deeply respected by everyone for his integrity, ethics, hard work, and his personal commitment and affection for all around him.
Despite his distinguished career, he was happiest at home with his family, whom he loved unconditionally and infinitely.
He is survived by a very loving family that includes his wife Nandita, his sons Yatish and Shachin, his daughters-in-law Alaka and Niloufer, and his grandsons Apurva, Yash, and Rayhan. Survivors also include his brother Amar Nath, his sister Promila, their families, and the families of his other siblings, and extended family.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the funeral service is a private cremation, and in lieu of flowers, we request that you consider a donation to the Adult Day Care Center of Bridgewater, NJ who provided irreplaceable love, comfort, and support for him, and his entire family during the last years of his life.
