Obituary of Salvatore Cortese
Salvatore Cortese, age 83, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was born in Plainfield and had lived in Jersey City before moving to Watchung over 30 years ago.
Mr. Cortese served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and later on in the Reserves.
He was a Communicant of St. Mary's Stony Hill Church in Watchung.
Mr. Cortese worked as a pattern maker in the fashion district of New York City for many years.
He was a coin collector and enjoyed reading the morning paper.
Mr. Cortese is predeceased by his wife, Julieta Cortese in 2010; his son, Paul Cortese and his sisters, Philomena Dilello and Susie Restivo and his granddaughter, Abigail Cortese.
Surviving are his sons, Gabriel Cortese of NJ, Anthony Cortese and his wife, Donna of CO and Frank Cortese and his wife, Latoya of FL; his daughter, Julie Bower and her husband, John of OH; his brothers, Joseph Cortese, Anthony Cortese and Michael Cortese and his sisters, Jennie Santonastaso, Josephine DelVecchio, Mary Dellaperute and Minnie Tedesco. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, April 22nd at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
