Obituary of Marian Mellen
Marian Gruver Mellen, age 94, died on Tuesday December 22, 2020 at Lexington Medical Center, Lexington, South Carolina. She was born at home in Tinicum Township, Pennsylvania in Bucks County and lived in Chatham before moving to Warren in 1980. She had been living with her son Donald and his wife Anne in Lexington, South Carolina for the past 14 months, after suffering a mild stroke in August 2019.
She was a housewife who loved gardening, cooking, keeping her home beautiful, and crafting. Even in the last few months of her life, she was creating a beautiful fabric bedspread. Again, up to the end, she helped her son with his garden, after having been a keen gardener all of her life.
Mrs. Mellen was active in the Martinsville Methodist Church until it merged with another and, in her later years, participated in a bowling league, neighborhood monthly lunches, and the Somerset County Senior Citizens activities, including going to plays and lunches.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Howard G., who passed away in 2009, her parents, John and Olive Haney Gruver, and seven of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her four sons, Howard (Becky), David, Donald (Anne), and Scott (Kathy), her granddaughters, Barbara, Pamela, Dawn, Sheila, and Keli, five great-grandchildren, and two siblings, Violet Rutter, to whom she was closest in age and relationship, and Paul Gruver.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband Howard at Somerset Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's New Jersey, 425 Eagle Rock Avenue, #203, Roseland, NJ 07068 or Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, 42 Liberty Corner Road, Warren, NJ 07059.
