Florence Goemaat, 72, died on Friday, April 30, in Scotch Plains, NJ, surrounded by family. Born in Bergen-Belsen Displaced Persons Camp in Germany, Florence moved to New Jersey in 1950.
Florence was a substitute teacher in the Warren Township school district for nearly 25 years. She started her professional career as a librarian with the Department of Labor in Washington, DC. Florence earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Pratt Institute. Florence was a lifetime member of Hadassah and was extremely active in the organization’s Greensboro, North Carolina chapter.
Florence is survived by John, her husband of 48 years, their daughter Elizabeth Crow (Nicholas) and sons Jason and Daniel (Rachel), and grandson Eli, as well as Florence’s sister Barbara Mason.
A private funeral service will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Temple Har Shalom in Warren, Mazon, or Hadassah.
