We are writing to share the sad news that our mother, Nasib Kaur Mahal, passed away peacefully on Thursday night (June 17th, 2021) at age 97. She was surrounded by her family and was in the comfort of her own home.
Nasib lived an enriching, admirable and joyous life. Nasib was born in the village of Sansarpur, Punjab on January 5, 1924. She studied Urdu in school, and in total could read and write in four languages. Nasib Kaur Kullar married Adarsh Singh Mahal on March 7, 1949 in Punjab, India. They raised three sons who all pursued medicine and became physicians in the United States. Nasib and Adarsh moved to the US in 1994 and spent the rest of their lives in Bedminster, NJ. Adarsh passed away May 18th, 2018 after suffering from a stroke. They enjoyed a happily married life for 69 years. We were blessed to have them live so close, and we deeply cherish the countless precious memories that we all shared throughout the years.
Nasib’s final wishes were “kush raho, mil jul ke raho” – be happy, and for her family to stay together, support each other, and keep meeting regularly. She was a nurturing soul, both to her thriving garden and to her entire family. She individually encouraged the best in each one of us and strongly encouraged us to pursue as many educational opportunities as possible.
Nasib leaves behind her three sons, Anmol, Pradeep, and Sharan; her four daughters-in-law: Surjit, Mary, Jasbir, and Mona; her eight grandchildren and their four partners: Subena & Barrett, Yasmin & Johann, Vikram, Kiran, Katelin & Danielle, Tarika & Jean, Monica, and Arjun; and her eight great-grandchildren: Maya, Spencer, Hanna (in California), Pemma, Bodhi (in Maine), Harper, Kennedy, and Jack (in New Jersey).
We are holding a private family ceremony, as per her wishes, on Saturday, June 19th. This ceremony will be from 9 AM to 11 AM, Eastern Standard time. Please consider attending via Livestream – Link -https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/nasib-k-mahal.
The recording will be able to view later, for two months, on the Higgins Funerals home website - www.higgnsfuneralome.com.
Thank you all for your condolences, support, love and kind words.
