Obituary of Manfred Unfried

Manfred Unfried, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2021. He was born in 1942 in Karlsruhe, Germany to Friedrich and Wilhelmine Unfried. Manfred immigrated to New Jersey in the ‘60s, and in 1974, settled in Scotch Plains with his wife, Marlene, to raise their family. He became a United States citizen on January 23, 1995. He resided in Warren, NJ, since 2003.

Manfred studied food science in Germany, graduating with a Master Butcher degree. He enjoyed growing his business over the course of 32 years, bringing his son, Erik, on board in 2007, to pass on his knowledge and technical expertise.

Manfred was an avid reader of current events, history, and business; enjoyed watching soccer and tennis; and loved spending time with his family and his dog, Tyson.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marlene Klick Unfried; his three children: his daughter, Kirsten Zalisk and her husband, Mike; his son, Erik Unfried; and his daughter, Birgit Maruszewski and her husband, Adam; and his three grandchildren: Tessa, Kai, and Mina.
