Obituary of Marc Wade Johnson
Marc Wade Johnson was born on January 8, 1969, in Newark, NJ, and lived most of his childhood in North Newark until his family moved to the Weequahic section in 1980. As a kid, Marc was a talented athlete. While he would later excel at basketball, his main childhood sport was baseball. He played for hours at the Joe Kasberger Field in the North Ward. He attended William H. Horton School and later transferred to Maple Avenue School. He graduated from Weequahic High School in 1988, and seeing him walk across the stage was one of his grandmother’s brightest days.
Marc was a hard worker and provider for his family. For many years he worked on the docks for New England Motor Freight. He went on to have a long career in the trucking industry. He worked for Con-Way, Yellow Freight and Viking Trucking and finally settled at FedEx Freight. These jobs allowed him to provide a loving home and comfortable life for his family in Piscataway, NJ. In his free time, Marc enjoyed music, vacations, spending time with his family, and his beloved sports. Marc’s infectious laugh and radiant smile will never be forgotten by those who love him.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, Tina Johnson and Joseph Landrum and parents, Sharon Johnson and Arthur Godfrey.
Marc is survived by Tara, his first love and loving wife of 16 years, as well as his son Devin and daughter Madysen. He is also survived by his siblings, Stacey Gibson (Keith), James Johnson, Kelli Johnson, and Courtney Marshall (Brian) , his aunts Frances and Cynthia, his uncles David and Nashid, and a host of cousins.
Being “Uncle Marc” was a source of pride, and he adored his nieces and nephews, Eban and Taylor Gibson, Kaya Jackson Vega, Aamani Anthony, and Bre Solomon.
Marc’s wide but deeply connected circle of friends and family will miss him tremendously and will embody his kindness, compassion, and generosity in his remembrance.
