Obituary of Nancy Cornelius
Nancy Cornelius, age 86, passed away after a brief illness at her home on August 13th.
Nancy was born on September 8, 1934, to George and Agnes Mobus, in her grandmother’s house in Warren, New Jersey. She resided approximately four miles from there her entire life.
She was the devoted wife of the late Clarence “Whitey” Cornelius, until his death in 1984. She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Cornelius, of Flemington and Phyllis Penk (Michael) of Glassboro.
She was a loving Grammy to Laurie Leis (Daniel), Maggie Stawecki (Matthew), Stephanie Penk and Timothy Penk. She was also lucky enough to be a Great-Grammy to Abigail, Nicholas, Emily and Sophia. Nancy was also a dear sister to Bill Mobus, Gus Mobus and Shirley DeFilippis, and Emmy Ruchko who predeceased her, and will be greatly missed by her sister Betty Rodgers (Bob).
Nancy enjoyed the Jersey shore, playing (and winning) cards, and rooting for the Yankees. Her greatest joy, however, was the time she spent with her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking for them. They all loved spending time with her as well. Nan’s energy and youthful enthusiasm was an inspiration to us all. She met the world on her terms and dealt with her latest challenge in the same way.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 10:00 am at the funeral home. A private interment for family will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Nancy’s name to Atlantic Visiting Nurse Hospice. www.bit.ly/NanCornelius. 973-379-8400.
