John Hughes

Obituary of John G. Hughes

John G. “Jack” Hughes, 90, of Singer Island, Florida, passed peacefully on August 132021, less than two weeks before his 91st birthday. Jack was born in Camden, NJ, on August 25, 1930 and raised in Hackensack, NJ.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lee Hughes, who sadly passed away in 2011, and his parents, John and Martha Hughes.  Jack and his late wife Lee were residents of Warren, New Jersey until retiring to Singer Island, Florida.

Jack served his country proudly with an honorable discharge from the Air Force.

He went on to graduate from Columbia University and entered  the insurance industry in the halcyon days of the 1950’s. Thanks to his brilliant mind and incredible work ethic, Jack worked his way up from the ground floor at American International Group, at that time the world’s largest insurance company, becoming an Officer and Senior Vice President – Worldwide Claims.

He is survived by his son, Kevin J. Hughes, and his wife Danielle; his three beloved grandchildren, Nicolle, Tara and Sean; and his sister, Carol Lloyd, and her husband, Bob.

Even more humble and unassuming than he was successful, Jack was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. A voracious reader and history buff, Jack completed the New York Times Crossword Puzzle almost every day and enjoyed the company, phone calls and texts of his three grandchildren: Nicolle, Tara and Sean. They will miss his wry sense of humor, sage advice and uncanny ability to provide the meaning of any word they ever asked him to help with.
