Obituary of Richard A. Murphy
Richard A. Murphy was born on January 12, 1955 in the Bronx, NY and died peacefully in Manhattan on August 16, 2021. He moved to Millington, NJ when he was 9 years old and has been a lifelong resident. He attended Bayley Ellard High School, getting a scholarship to Seton Hall where he played Football. He was recruited and tried out for pro football teams, but a motorcycle accident crushed his professional football dreams.
Rich had many opportunities to showcase his skills with careers in coaching, teaching, construction, and media. Rich being the serial entrepreneur had the vision to invent and patent SoloSpar, an automated Sparring Partner.
Rich found his true passion in woodworking. For the past 20 plus years, Rich has been a sawyer, creating beautiful wood pieces ranging from pergolas, bed frames, flooring, park benches, furniture, and more. He was a true artisan when it came to woodworking and loved handcrafting pieces to be cherished forever. He loved riding motorcycles, driving sports cars, and watching Hallmark with Mary.
Rich was a gentle giant, a big teddy bear with a heart of gold. He had incredible relationships with so many people. He loved networking, socializing, and making people laugh.
He is survived by his longtime love, Mary Lenney, his brother Donald Murphy, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews, and an incredible group of friends, many that considered him family.
