Obituary of Robert L. Bengle
Our beloved Robert (Bob) Bengle passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. Bob is remembered as a loving, devoted husband, and a generous and loyal friend.
He is survived by his family who loves and misses him deeply, including his loving and devoted wife, Roberta, his sisters, Diane, Janice, Mary, and Paulette, brother, Larry, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who will inestimably miss and forever love “Uncle Bob”.
Bob loved to laugh and was happiest and at his best surrounded by his loving family and friends. Any room was better with Bob in it.
Bob was a vital member of the Summit and New Providence communities for decades. His longtime membership, generosity, and service benefited local organizations such as the Elks Club, Police Guard, and as a 100-pint blood donor. Bob proudly served as a Merchant Mariner Captain in his more than 30 years with the United States Merchant Marines, delivering maritime relief following the 9/11 attacks, and as a veteran of the Vietnam War. Bob’s was a life well lived, with his work and travel taking him all around the world, and he was taken from us far too soon.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
A visitation will be held at the Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung, NJ 07069, Sunday, October 3, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Cremation was private.
