Obituary of Marion Eugene Taylor Sr.

Marion Eugene Taylor, Sr. of Middlesex, NJ, departed this life on June 7, 2014. Marion was born on November 5, 1932 in Tuscaloosa, AL to Louise Thornton and Charlie Taylor. He was raised by his beloved Aunt Sadie. Before being honorably discharged from the military in 1955, Marion attended Michigan State University. He also attended Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Marion proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded a medal for being an expert marksman with the M-1 rifle. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Citation, and various other awards while stationed overseas. While in high school, he received numerous trophies, medals, ribbons, and awards associated with the Froebel High School track team. His track team was considered to be one of the greatest high school track teams ever to come out of the state of Indiana. He also received letters for basketball and football each year in high school. Marion received a four year athletic scholarship for track and field to the University of Michigan. He enjoyed frequent trips to Atlantic City, family gatherings, Westerns, grilling, and boxing. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Marion is predeceased by his parents Louise Thornton and Charlie Taylor; his beloved Aunt Sadie; his sister Laura L. Cole of Detroit, MI; his brother Arthur Beal Howard of Tuscaloosa, AL, and grandson Eugene Gardner of Plainfield, NJ. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Anna Belle Taylor; two sisters, Rosa M. Amstrong, of Detroit, MI and Aline Howard of Tuscaloosa, AL; five daughters: Felicia Gass (David) of Piscataway, NJ, Carolyn R. Johnson of Monroe Township, NJ, Gwendolyn Davis (Kelly) of Lawrenceville, GA, Anna Ivey (Ulysess) of South River, NJ and Tamara Taylor of Mays Landing, NJ, two sons: Marion Eugene Taylor, Jr. of Jersey City, NJ and Kenneth Taylor (Shonda) of Plainfield, NJ; nine cherished grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, a host of in-laws, and many friends.
