Obituary of Shirley A. Santonastaso
Shirley A. Santonastaso, age 79 passed away on Wednesday October 27, 2021 at her son’s home in Basking Ridge surrounded by her loving family. Born in Plainfield, Shirley had spent most her life in North Plainfield before recently moving to Somerset.
Shirley always had a passion for teaching. After raising her three children, Shirley went back to school. She earned her degree in elementary education from Kean College and went on to teach second grade at East End Elementary School for many years before retiring.
Shirley was an avid reader, an excellent cook, and she enjoyed taking trips to the beach but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Ralph in 2014.
Surviving are her three children Ralph Santonastaso and his wife Karen, John Santonastaso and his wife Karen and Patti McTaggart and her husband Steve. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Sean, Jack, Morgan, Kate, Grace, Abby, Kelsey and Nicholas.
A visitation will be held on Sunday October 31, 2021 from 1 to 5pm at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069. A funeral mass will take place on Monday November 1, 2021 at 10am at St. Joseph’s RC Church in North Plainfield. Cremation will be private.
