Obituary of Dr. George Peterson
Dr. George Earl Peterson, age 87, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021.
He was the son of the late Harry and Lilian Peterson of Dormont, PA.
George was a graduate of Dormont High School, where he excelled in Science and Music. He won numerous Science awards along with excelling on the Saxophone and Clarinet. While in high school, he formed a band, The Keynotes. George also worked in his Uncle’s hardware store, helping others.
He was also a member of Dormont’s All-State Band, where he was also the clarinet soloist of the band.
George was an avid amateur radio operator and contacted many other amateurs around the world. He also enjoyed skiing and ballroom dancing.
He was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he majored in Nuclear Physics. After graduation, George went to work at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey. During his forty years of service, George also had many patents created and was widely published. He was also a member of Mensa.
George is survived by his wife, Marion Horel Peterson, of Warren, New Jersey; his brother, Harry Peterson, Jr., of McMurray, PA; and he is also survived by his nieces, Anne Peterson and Lynne Swanson.
Services will be held privately.
