Obituary of Maria Domenica Barca

Maria Domenica Barca, age 76, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021, at her home in Basking Ridge. Maria was born and raised in Scauri, Italy, and was a long-time resident of North Plainfield, NJ before moving to Basking Ridge, NJ in 2005.

Maria was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker to her family.  After her children were raised, she started working as a cafeteria aide in Basking Ridge, where she was affectionately known as the “Pizza Lady” by all the students she cherished.

Maria was a long time communicant of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in North Plainfield.

Maria was a great cook and baker and she will be remembered for all the wonderful meals and cookies she made. She enjoyed travelling, especially taking trips with her family back to Italy. She loved being with her friends and family, but her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Maria Assunta Cardillo, and her siblings, Luigi Cardillo in 2018, and Giovanni Cardillo in 2018.

Maria is survived by her loving husband, Carmelo Barca; her three children, Josephine DiMeo and her husband Ralph, Anthony Barca and his wife Nicole Labombarda, and Dino Barca and his wife Gwen; her six grandchildren, Sophia, Ava, Anthony, Melina, Gianna and Carmine; and two siblings, Pietro Cardillo and Libera Nosal.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s RC Church in 38 Jackson Avenue, North Plainfield, NJ 07060. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung, NJ.
