Obituary of Daniel F. Murphy

Daniel F. Murphy, age 83, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at JFK Haven Hospice in Edison. Born in Mineola, NY, he has been a long-time Plainfield resident. Mr. Murphy attended the University of Notre Dame graduating in 1953, receiving his Bachelors of Science Degree. He graduated from Seton Hall Law School in 1956. He has been an attorney in Plainfield since December 13, 1956. Mr. Murphy also held judicial posts in Plainfield, Peapack & Gladstone, South Plainfield, Far Hills, Montgomery and Manville Municipal Courts. Mr. Murphy was the past president of the Plainfield Bar Association, was a member of the Somerset County Municipal Court Judges Association and was a past delegate of the Annual NJ Supreme Court Rules Committee. He was an avid New York Yankees and Notre Dame Football fan. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Murphy. Surviving are his children; Daniel F. Murphy Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, Christopher J. Murphy and his wife, Theresa, Terrence A. Murphy, Susan Higgins and her husband, Charles, Joanne Brizz and her husband, Terry, Kathleen Murphy, Ruth Calderone and her husband Joseph, and Meaghean Murphy; his brother, William Murphy and his wife, Kathleen; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield, NJ. Funeral services will begin on Monday, June 23 at 9:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Mary's Church, Plainfield. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
