Obituary of Mary Geraldine Kelley

Mary Geraldine Kelley, 80, of Stirling, NJ, passed away on February 1, 2022, at the Care One at Madison Avenue in Morristown, NJ.

Gerry was born on January 6, 1942, in Plainfield, NJ, the daughter of the late Charles F. Kelley, Sr. and Mary R. Fitzgerald Kelley.

She graduated from St. Mary’s grammar school in Plainfield and Holy Trinity H.S. in Westfield.

After graduating from high school in 1960, Gerry started her employment at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ, where she worked until she started college. In 1970, Gerry graduated from Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then went on to NYU where she graduated in 1972 with a Master of Arts degree. After college, Gerry continued her employment at Bell Laboratories, where she worked for 15 years.

Gerry was a parishioner of several churches during her life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield, NJ, Church of the Little Flower in Berkeley Heights, NJ, and St. Vincent de Paul Church in Stirling, NJ.

She was an avid reader and was a member of a few book clubs. She loved movies and plays, but her favorite plays were those by Shakespeare.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles F. Kelley, Sr., and Mary R. Fitzgerald Kelley; and her brothers: Brian J. Kelley in 1953, Eugene M. Kelley in 1996, and Kevin P. Kelley in 2015.

Gerry is survived by her siblings: Dr. Charles F. Kelley,  Jr. (Joann) of Allentown, PA, and Maureen A. Buchanan (David) of North Plainfield, NJ; many beloved nieces and nephews and many cousins.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral mass will follow at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 516 W. 6th St., Plainfield, NJ, starting at 12:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
